CORE 3C:
Core 3C was taken at a water depth of 7.5m (24.5ft) (Table1) and was a total length of 255cm (100.4in) (Figures 1 & 16-18).
A total of 13 grain size samples were taken at depths of 1-10cm (0.4-3.9in), 31-40cm (12.2-15.8in), 51-60cm (20-23.6in), 61-70cm
(24-27.6in), 91-100cm (35.8-39.4in), 121-130cm (47.6-51.2in), 161-170cm (63.4-66.9in), 171-180cm (67.3-70.9in), 201-205cm
(79.1-80.7in), 205-210cm (80.7-82.7in), 221-225cm (87-88.6in), 231-240cm (90.9-94.5in), and 241-250cm (94.9-98.4in). From the
top of the core to 60cm (23.6in) depth there was a decrease in percent sand from 93 to 30%. From the depths of 60cm (23.6in) to
130cm (51.2in) percent sand increased from 30 to 85% with a mean grain size ranging from 0.0407mm (4.6phi) to 0.1174mm
(3.1phi). From 130 (51.3in) to 205cm (80.7in) depth percent sand decreased from 85 to 15%. From 205cm (80.7in) to 240cm (94.5in)
depth there was an increase in percent sand from 15 to 92%. From 241cm (94.9in) to the bottom of the core, there was a decrease in
percent sand from 92% to 56% with a mean grain size of 0.2943mm (1.8phi).
Sand and shell weights are shown in Table 12. Percent sand, silt and clay are shown in Table 13. Median grain size, mean
grain size, skewness and sorting index are shown in Table 16. Graphs of the results are located in Figures 19-22.
It was determined that core 3C had approximately 182cm (71.7in) of sediment contained at least 50% sand, of which 62cm
(24.4in) was located shallower than 1m (39.4in) depth.
